A Republic is to a Democracy as a square is to a rectangle.

None of the fools up there understand why the survival of the American Republic, and averting its transformation into an American Empire, is both academically and practically important to humanist freedom lovers around the world. The don't even understand what "Republic" means.
-
A "republic" is a form of government without a king, i.e., a form of government in which power does not pass through heredity. Both democratic and non-democratic republics exist.
-
Fair. Let me clarify: federal republic. The details of federation are less important than the fact that its core rule system places extreme and strict limits on the centralized component of government.
-
Whatever you want to call it, a federation, a confederation, a union, or a federal republic, it can be either democratic or autocratic.

Interesting they want a popular vote for president, but don’t want a popular vote for legislation...

The United States is a democracy in the same way that she is a Native American. We're not. At all.

The states wouldn't have agreed to federation if they thought it would be a democracy.

Democracy is one of the worst forms of government imaginable. Always unstable and chaotic. They always fail. A Republic is perhaps one of the best. Perhaps a constitutional monarchy with intelligent methods of transferring power.

Sadly, we haven’t been a Republic for decades. We are a Democratic Oligarchy.

I’m always irritated when people make that statement, and it’s common to either side (I actually get angry when Tucker Carlson says this). A fundamental and non-trivial misrepresentation of US governance and its founding.

With today's supreme ruling allowing politicians to pick their voters, can we even consider the U.S. a Republic anymore? Let alone a democratic one.
