@nntaleb -
Early lift off stage with everything else: gold, stocks, bonds, etc.... That's scatological.

Bitcoin is as immutable as gold but with the added advantage of being teleportable anywhere across the planet without permission from any authority, corporation or government. Bitcoin is financial self-sovereignty, and may be our last chance to escape fiat currency...

I've watched all sorts of "bitcoins for absolute beginners" guides. I'm no technophobe, but they're all far too complex. Still got lots of questions that they don't answer. Needs someone with Apple's skills for making everything intuitive & user-friendly.

@coinbase allow me to buy separate coins (wallets?) for different purposes and manage them separately? (Want to have separate 'accounts' for my children and also for making donations) -
You might also consider getting hardware wallets like Trezor
-
Thanks for your willingness to help. I think you're a couple of stages ahead of me! I have a wallet. How/where do I buy bitcoins and how do I get them 'into' the wallet? Do I need a separate wallet for every coin I purchase? Is my wallet independent of the wallet provider?
-
My pleasure. your trezor or ledger nano hard wallet can hold various crypto’s, including all of the crypto’s you can purchase on Coinbase. You buy bitcoin directly from Coinbase.http://Www.coinbase.com
-
Coinbase is an exchange. You can keep your crypto’s on the Coinbase exchange if you plan to trade them. However, take them off the exchange by transferring them to your wallet if you just plan to hold them as an investment.
