Just imagine how much power a group could amass if the gained control over a digital currency like bitcoin. I think outlawing usury and going back to something akin to the gold standard would be preferable.

Perhaps you have not had the interest or time to better understand Bitcoin and its resiliance and resistance to centralized control. One problem with gold is the centralization of gold into banks or institutions to allow for ease of transaction at distance and in small amounts.
