Male privilege... "Once upon a time, 4,000 to 8,000 years after humanity invented agriculture, something very strange happened to human reproduction. Across the globe, for every 17 women who were reproducing, passing on genes that are still around today—only one man did the same

"In more recent history, as a global average, about four or five women reproduced for every one man." --- monogamy never existed.
-
Or more accurately - peace never existed (for long).
-
Official law / norm monogamy is just serial polygamy or hidden polygyny --- women choose who they want to father their kids, and they are not choosing a man just because he is single or has never had a child with any other woman. Women just want good genes.

In the beginning of the agriculture revolution, you likely had the first ability to field dedicated armies, which allowed for the rise of warlords. The successful warlords likely got first access and the most fertile women from the conquered tribes.

Not that strange. Presumably the village headman got most of the women. The Bible tells us that some men had many wives. Seventeen seems peanuts compared to some historical characters.

"one of the first instances that scientists have found of culture affecting human evolution". I hope by first they mean earliest. If this is the first time they have found an example of human culture impacting human evolution, they aren't doing their job very well.

Yep. In ancient times, it was the women who held property & had multiple mates. Guess who put an end to all that?
