What is alive

I a virus is composed of non living atoms as well. Does it have free will? Do other primate species have free will?

The anti free will argument boils down to a god of the gaps or an argument from ignorance. How can free will exist if it’s just particles bashing into one another - I’m not sure, let’s allow science the time to close the gap.

Maybe consciousness is non material.

People are bad at categorization.

If we want to be technically accurate we are 99.9% nothing. Most of the space atoms occupy is actually empty. Remove the orbiting electron and those atoms condense to an infinitesimally small size We are mostly nothing but somehow the gift of consciousness exists. What glory!
