Perhaps because the constitution requires the protection from enemies both foreign and domestic, have you forgotten Pearl Harbour?. The forging of the allies required allies to fight for other nations freedoms and liberation and to protect themselves? Just saying!

Yeah, instead of that we're going to be a Caliphate. Yippee.

In fairness, he didn't say American Constitutional rights. Additionally, the Axis powers, to the best of my knowledge, had designs for this side of the Atlantic too (re: Pearl Harbor) so shutting them down before they crossed the Pond was absolutely in defense of American rights

In hindsight France should have just surrendered to the Ottomans in WW1... because they kinda did anyway with the Euro and middle east immigration.

The Constitution was derived in part from the French giving more wide acceptance throughout the years. Defending similar forms of government gives strength to your own.

keeping the european continent from getting steamrolled by germany was considered strategically important to american national security because of the role played by the english navy and air capabilities. read a book.
-
Maybe, maybe not. Either way, that isn’t tantamount to “defending constitutional rights”.
-
well, if the united states were to be conquered by germany i think the constitution would probably not be enforced particularly thoroughly, but i suppose that’s just my opinion
-
That tortured reasoning can be used to shoehorn in the “defending constitutional rights” justification to get the population to go along with any military action.
-
bingo. i don’t personally like that particular line of reasoning but i do study grand strategy and issues of national/global security and it’s a pretty common justification. sometimes we act on imperfect information and tenuous reasoning bc of severity of potential consequences.
