I once blew up and old Army boot as a demonstration of the effect of an anti-personnel mine on a foot. Turned out the heel was made of chip board surrounded by rubber. That was UK mil circa 90's boot. Far better now but many older guys with screwed knees.

22 years of wearing those, 60 lbs Bergen, forced marches, assault courses, para jumps, all in those boots. Yes it will ruin your knees for sure.
