agreed. I always think, the human body was designed to move. Did our ancestors do a warmup routine before a mammoth hunt?

True, but I imagine some low creeping to get into position
-
lol, this is completely plausible
-
Or a 40 mile hike to even be close to the mammoths
-
hiking in that terrain would be strenuous I imagine.
-
Strenuous but controllable. High speed is what leads to injury in my experience.

fair point

Severe osteoarthritis in the right knee (from a lifetime of sports/exercise), with a number of other problematic joints from injuries - completely modified diet, took out all sugars/grains - 55% calories from fat/proteins (meat) - still a little discomfort - but pain free..
-
Benefits of health and fitness are minimal when your joints are shot.

That's why the elliptical is one of the best workouts out there. Works many muscles, cardio, and next to no impact. Best of both worlds, and I do at least 20 minutes every time I'm at the gym.
-
Yep, it's very possible to have low impact workouts that protect your body. Elliptical is a great example, as is swimming.

Many blue zone people seem to have "natural" exercise like living in the mountains and walking up and down in their daily endeavors.

studies have shown benefits of exercise again and again and again; it's only a question of finding joint-sparing exercise. Maybe swimming. Maybe upper body exercise that doesn't overload the knees.

No paradox at all. Too much of anything is bad. Whether excessive sedentariness or exercise. Thus moderate exercise is optimal for both health and sustainability.

I think we place too much emphasis on high impact exercises, like running, that are bad on the joints, and not enough emphasis on strength training exercises that might reduce impact on the joints.

Exercise improves my knee function . If I don't exercise it goes downhill fast . Movement is critical

There's the whole 'use it or lose it' theory. I don't think a lot of sedentary people are walking around with great knees. Certainly it's a bad idea to directly injure them, but they need movement to work properly.
