Arranged marriages tend to occur in monocultures, I’m not sure it’s cause or effect.https://twitter.com/will_zur_macht/status/1134594370223648769 …

also arranged marriages are much less likely to divorce, presumably bc the parents/elders see each kid more clearly than the kid sees themselves. Or says Dan Ariely

These are male dominated societies. Women therefore have less power. Consequently, they are less able to leave unhappy relationships.

Or it's because if the parents have the power to force them into marriage, then they have the power to force them to stay.

It’s neither. In monocultures there tends to be concensus, which allows it to happen. Many people believe arranged marriages are “better” for their particular societies. They may even have a point.😉

Yes, that's true. I got it from Dan's Google talk, I watched a few years back. He's actually an interesting guy you might want to have on your show. Link:https://youtu.be/RS8R2TKrYi0?t=1611 …

Arranged marriages were used to set peace between two or more regions. The marriage between Princess Catherine of France & King Henry V is an example of that. It was a negotiation like any other. Lucrezia Borgia was used as a "diplomatic" pawn all her life.
