It's not as easy Stefan. At least not if we care about the genetic heritage of said offspring. There's not as much of the spray and pray, 5 to 10+ kids out of which some might die. Now, couples are 100% invested in 1 or 2 or 3. So when you have less eggs in the basket ...

You become more protective of those eggs, AND you don't put "the materials" together to make any eggs with just anyone, but you become more selective about who helps you put those eggs in that basket. Ok, enough of that metaphor
