The statistic is based on a survey, not a financial audit study. I would believe a statistic that says 40% of Americans are struggling to put their shoes on while standing up.

I wonder how much of what the average American consumes more appropriately falls under the nutritionally ambiguous category of "food".

Because people DON'T KNOW HOW MONEY WORKS, and even if they did they DON'T HAVE THE DISCIPLINE to apply the knowledge. They sell themselves to anyone (or any job) that will "take care of them". They are willing slaves.

There are something like 18 federal feeding programs(which I don't use). It doesn't cost much if you cook from scratch. Mark Twain had something to say about that 40% number.

When obesity, rather than hunger, is the issue, you start making up phrases to use as problems. In this case, the phrase is ‘food security.’
