All the passions are addictive. Alcoholism is a secondary addiction. Addiction freezes emotional development structurally around each of the passions which are deeply unconscious. Few people free themselves from their addiction to their passion. Caught in a perpetual adolescence.

I'd say the same holds true for pot. Teens who turned to pot to get through negative emotions & stress & continued to do so into adulthood usually lack emotional self-regulation skills required for effective conflict resolution & relationships. But these can be learned at any age
