Prairie Dogs carry it too. They have occasional cases in Denver where animal rights activists have allowed (aka demanded) prairie dog populations to explode to unhealthy levels and outbreaks will sweep a colony.

Next they'll push eating insects. Oh wait...

Several better articles on this plague outbreak with more news/less filler on plague history. Couple from Uglii, the Western most province of Mongolia. The husband hunted the marmot and they ate the liver raw. The gov tells people not to eat raw meat, but every year 1or 2 die.

Marmot is like big gopher? I heard people eat Nutria but that's a lot of meat maybe smaller than a big dog, but I think fda checks it. As it's served in restaurants and sometimes called marshdog, I hope that someone learned from this.
