    I once listened to an American soldier tell me all about his endless deployments in the Middle East, and I asked him if he thought it was strange that the US Department of DEFENSE was everywhere in the Middle East, but not defending America itself.

        That was a long pause, then he mumbled something about “the mission.” That’s how the military burns up soldiers - it puts them in dangerous situations, then says it’s all about the guy next to you...

        Oil is traded in dollars and the military is the mechanism to enforce that. Some may be familiar with the term petro-dollar. Also, there’s other resources, ergo opium, we’re protecting. Narco-trafficking is lucrative as well.

        I met several dozen US soldiers on leave from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, over a number of years. It was weird how they all parroted the same answer.... “Aw man, I joined up because I wanred to make a difference”. Every one of them. Same words.
