As a child, the purpose of play is to teach you creativity and negotiation. In my childhood, we made up endless games, which required both. I have concerns that the digital generation is learning little of either.

My 10 year old built a cardboard fire station for his train layout from Amazon boxes. Then he decided to paper mache it and paint it. On his own- with supplies he found in the house and instructions from google on how to make the paper mache glue.
I used to sleep under my model train layout as a kid, I loved building that stuff. :)
