People did used to pay you to pick it up in the past, the Government mafia decided they would make it a monopoly they imposed ending that. People sold their ash from the coal fires, the leftovers and peelings for pig feed, paper, clothes, metal, today plastic would be added in.

Companies that own a Recycling Plant usually own "profitable" businesses as well. Recycling Plants often run at a loss. They're a Tax right-off.

There's only one material in your general waste that can be recycled, (i.e., made into a product of equal value) it's aluminum. 60% of what people think is recycled is just downcycled, (discarded later) & yes, it's environmentally inefficient. I'm changing that & will pay ;-)

Actually, all of it can. Except for heavy metals, those need a diff process because of safety issues.

let's start with paper. When you find an environmentally efficient way to recycle paper into a product of equal value, let me know and I'll work on a way to make it cost-effective. Paper fibers break, plastic molecules shorten, metals are elements and can be recycled.
