No formal welfare state but they work on a socialist model, working together to support the whole community.

They are not pure socialists because their society is a theological one. But the way they help and support each other could be described as a kind of socialist model and is probablythe reason they are so successful and ‘rich’
-
Socialism is coercive. Community is voluntary.
-
All political system and philosophies have coercive elements. And most communities will have rules/ laws that dictate membership of that community.

Indigenous nations didn't have welfate states or central banking and we were thriving - in fact, we're still 5% of the global population and maintain 80% of the entire planet's ecological biodiversity - but you call us low IQ savages and celebrate our genocide. Grow some hair.

I think a lot of young kids considering college in today's market could draw a great lesson or ten from some of the Amish cabinet makers and wood craftsmen in my area. They make absurd amounts of money doing it.
-
Any piece of furniture bought from an Amish carpenter is good for life.....
-
You wouldn't believe the kitchen they put in for me. Every single join, perfect, at half the price, installed, you'd pay for branded cabinetry from a big-name warehouse store. Incredible work.
-
But the point is, these are people with ~8th grade education, and their dedication to a profession and entrepreneurship gives them great success, even where they impose incredible restrictions on themselves. Thriving.

And people forget there is a world of difference between a social safety net provided by a church which will hold you morally accountable and a secular state which will not.
-
Except that a church will allow slavery, while the secular US will not, the church allows mistreatment of people for their genes (race, sex, gender, sexuality, etc.) and the secular government will not, it believes some people are worth more than others, the government does not

Took a road trip through one of our Amish communities recently. A lot of solar panels being used. They don't mind having power, just don't hook up to the GRID
