You’re right on target about spankings

Stephan, I have never had to spank my two sons. Instead, I earn and demand their respect, and I give them respect in return. I also live the example I want them to emulate, which includes times when it is necessary for me to explain my mistakes.

One thing I do agree with Stefan on

I never understood spanking. I was spanked and hated it. U just learns ways to deceive your parents. Also why is it ok to spank a child. If you touch someone that is illegal!

Yet fear is an absolute motivator and children should somehow learn to fear consequences, over tens of thousands of years children made obedient survived and those not did not. Darwin maybe?

My kids are screwed up. I should have spanked them. Lesson learned. Spank your kids.

We used the idea of rewarding responsible action with increased freedoms, irresponsible action with loss of freedoms, plus teaching constantly what was acceptable behavior and what was not. We have two fine sons, one is a Marine. Both are awesome.
