It should be dealt with as a public health problem, which Is exactly what it is. There are millions of redemption stories and recovery is possible.

Drugs should be completely legal. For better, for worse, or for both, the problem will sort itself out sooner rather than later.

But they are. And it's not like people currently in prison are going to be voting. I can't vote sometimes just because I have to work. Are they going to put voting booths in the prisons?

This is the crux of that portion of the debate to many laws limiting freedom leading to overcriminalization.

The dark web is filled with non-violent drug purchases.

‘Drug offenders’ is a paradox! Drugs is essentially not a criminal-justice thing! It’s a sociological thing!! Decriminalize, let the State supply the drugs through pharmacies and thus be able to functionally address rehab!!

Don’t most people who are convicted of drug crimes, plead down to get a lighter sentence? Like they’ll plead guilty to possession with intent to distribute if a weapons or assault charge is dropped... just asking I don’t really know.

And if they’ve served their time, they aren’t in prison. Ugh.

If gov't wants to make a thing appear bad all it needs to do is find the slimmest justification to name that thing "violent" (as it does now) and the people will wring their hands and beg to be saved from the "violence" if not for them then for The Children.

Prisons are expensive, there are other ways like tracking devices, fines, etc.

Some drugs are inherently violent, and inevitably lead to people dying. Some are not.
