In Malaysia, medical students who graduate have the option to work in public hospitals to pay back student loans.

That kind of common-sense is so rare. Malaysia is such a great place, I lived there for a few months back in 2003

The idea I like is that the school gets paid a portion of a graduate's income as payment for school. I.E. Johnny goes to college 4 years. He gets out starts to work. Once he earns above 50k the college gets 20% of earning for 5 years as the cost for degree

This way the colleges have skin in the game bout to have useless majors like multi gender studies. They have to turn out people who are able to contribute.

I pay my apprentices schooling if they get over 80% and have for years.

But then how would socialists like Warren buy votes?

Degrees would become more relevant, of greater educational value imparting immediately transferable skills like real critical thinking and analysis. Would likely reduce in cost as the remaining universities vied for the business. What's not to like?

There should be alternative ways to obtain a degree. You can teach an unlimited amount of people through online learning at very little cost.

This would solve hospital staffing overnight.

College loans should be made like home loans, based on risk & value. Straight-A student seeking nursing degree at $10k/yr school=good risk. D-student, gender studies, $60k/yr, not so much.

Bank of America gives student loans to banking and finance majors, Boeing to engineers; Pfizer and Merck can underwrite doctors! I see a conflict of interest in the medical field.

Good in theory, but creates a moral hazard where everyone “wants” to enter as finance majors, only to switch to French Literature in second semester. How does the difference get paid back?

A lot of businesses do this, and then require a set obligation in years of employment afterwards. The U.S. military, hospitals, government contracting companies, etc. It’s been going on for decades...

My job does that, essentially. They have both a "scholarship" program & "tuition reimbursement"- both require current employment (at a lower level post) & a several year post grad commitment.
