In many countries without a constitutional right to bear arms the police aren't routinely armed either and the overall prevalence of firearms is lower. Having more professional police, greater accountability and lower rates of gun possession by police and the public works.

You presume that guns are the problem, not people and their behavior. How has making drugs illegal prevented drug use? How did prohibition work out in America? If you want to prevent mass shooters look into mental health. Every one had a mental health issue.

No I don't. I haven't revealed my stance on guns to you. Symptoms as well as root causes needs to be addressed, though. Comparing guns to drugs is a major false equivalency. People aren't fiends for guns. People don't go on killing sprees with a spliff.

Furthermore, it's a long way from total prohibition to total personal freedom. All people except for the most psychotic ancaps agree that drugs should be regulated in some matter. Most people agree that kids shouldn't have free access to opiates.
