My experience, as PM for construction company installing curtainwall on 7 story bldg. a diff trade was using chop saw cutting steel studs on the roof. Sparks flew onto rigid insulation stacked nearby, no one noticed. Fire broke out just as everyone returned from lunch.

The fire started after the end of the workday, not after lunch

I shared my story to show that the cause of the fire I experienced occurred long before flames appeared. The sparks smoldered in the insulation for at least an hour before it broke out into flames.

It was almost certainly part of the long series of arson attacks against churches in France, but (as usual) we've been told - before the investigation even began - that it can't possibly be a crime.

On the other hand, if a devastating fire is to happen, it won't happen when workers are there, ready to put it out. If it is to happen, it will happen when there's no one there to stop it. Of course, the same is true of arsonists.

There are plenty of ways to start a fire slowly. You don't have to look very far to find out how to do it and the ingredients are readily available as well as consumed in a fire. Still, skilled investigator would find residue.

The media said it happened minutes, 5-6 minutes after the work day ended.

Seriously ? You dimwits haven't heard of 'smouldering'? A spark can smoulder away for minutes ..hours ..in a pile of.. just about anything.. before it erupts into flames. I know this because a friend's house, under renovation, just burned down in exactly that way.
