As a firefighter I am certain that the insurance company responsible for the contractors will get to the bottom of this and might I add, diversity be damned when cold hard cash is involved.
The good news is that all those millionaires can keep their money – now that arson has been ruled out at Notre Dame cathedral, the insurance companies of the contractors will surely pay for all the damages. There could also conceivably be prosecutions for criminal negligence.

Stefan, the French Govn aka the taxpayers had no insurance on the building and the building contractors would have a liability policy, albeit with a likely limit of only EUR20m

Did Notre Dame have ANY kind of automatic fire protection system? If the answer is no, THAT is criminal negligence. Multiple commerical systems are available. The entire structure could have been saved for a couple million Euros.

I would be surprised if any insurance company willingly pays for this. They are going to point to the hundreds of articles talking about how the structure was neglected for decades and in serious need of maintenance to keep from falling down and use that as an excuse not to pay.
