Right now, the authorities say the fire was most likely due to renovation work, and it's a terrible accident.

he might put forth an argument about relaxed selection leading to an accumulation of deleterious mutations (which presumably lower IQ and would be disfavored if selection weren't relaxed), but that would require him to actually know something about evolution

also, he'd be ignoring the flynn effect (IQs have increased over time), which operates much faster than mutation accumulation does
