What about the woman who is a stay at home wife because he didn't want her to work and then he has multiple affairs? Now they get a divorce and she has little to no work history and no income. Not being a jerk honestly asking.
-
Yes, marriage is a contract. Everyone knows that the contract terms are mostly set by the state and the terms of termination are currently set as a sharing of assets. (The government should of course not be involved except to enforce the contract.)

Most divorce courts operate unconstitutionally. They have bench trials where the judge decides everything. This violates the 7th Amendment, which requires a jury trial for civil cases where the dispute exceeds $20. In most divorces a lot more than $20 is at stake...
-
Also, most divorce court judges are elected, and they receive campaign contributions from divorce lawyers who argue cases in front of them. This is a clear conflict of interest. It’s also a hint as to what to ask a prospective divorce lawyer.

I agree... unless abuse or infidelity is involved. At that point, the offending party has breached their verbal contract to love & honor each other until death; and that party should be held accountable.

It'd be cheaper for him to have her killed and to go live his life of affluence in a resort with no extradition treaties

While i agree with most of what you say... In this particular instance I believe that you are incorrect. Mrs. Bezos was there from the beginning and helped, by her ex-husband's admission to start the company...Amazon is 24 yrs, tha marriage was 25 yrs.
-
Its relative... Bezos himself, has acknoweledged her contibution...and she didnt take the half she WAS entitled to by law. I am not saying that every divorce should or would shake out this way...Amazon started in her gatage too!

She deserves it. She was there with him the whole way. From $0 garage to richest couple.

Sorry, marriage is a partnership. Sometimes that takes the form of being active in the business itself, and sometimes it’s taking care of home and kids so he can concentrate on the biz. However it breaks down, it’s a 50/50 partnership. She’s entitled to 1/2
