The reason the Armenian Genocide cannot be recognized is because the Turks will in general neither acknowledge nor apologize. Genocide denial is terrible. And THAT raises interesting questions regarding immigration and assimilation. Powerful forces do not like those questions.

Whether the perpetrators will or will not recognize a crime of theirs is ALWAYS immaterial; it is up to those who would see justice to make that justice happen.
But making up a genocide is also bad 
Society is under enough stress as is. There's not enough social capital or regular capital to integrate currently incompatible cultures.
I would add that Turkey does not want to pay reparations to Armenia and be financially responsible to build their Country.
