I always feel sorry for people who only criticize - they are like transitory tinnitus; easily ignored, and soon totally forgotten. Also, their endless criticism only paralyzes them, not anyone with real ambition. Armchair quarterbacks are almost always wayyy out of shape...

Agreed, but a lot of times the only time someone is noticed is when he is criticizing, and then he is said to be "only critical," when in fact he is only paid attention to during those times.
