To the point where some of them aren't third world countries anymore but actually wealthier per person than Britain - Singapore, Hong Kong and, dare I say it, the US... If you had to be part of an Empire, the British Empire was by some distance the one to be in.

This is true but, I think it has more to do with the British being able to seize the most valuable areas rather than a more generous colonial policy.

And even better yet the ones the British still semi-control.... Cayman islands and Bermuda etc..
