Letting social media companies censor at will versus placing them under government control is a false dichotomy. If they censor people based on politics, they are publishers not platforms, and thus are legally responsible for what shows up in your feed - like a magazine. (Cont)
Furthermore, if social media bias favours one political party over another, then the social media companies should be viewed as providing campaign contributions to that party, and dealt with accordingly. Nothing needs to change – existing laws just need to be enforced.
