Their immunity for legal consequences for content depends upon their impartiality. If they are not being impartial, they should lose that immunity. Trust me, the shareholders will turf our the biased moderators in about 12 seconds if the entire business model is threatened.
Furthermore, if social media bias favours one political party over another, then the social media companies should be viewed as providing campaign contributions to that party, and dealt with accordingly. Nothing needs to change – existing laws just need to be enforced.

I believe their is a SCOTUS case coming up on this very issue, a small tv station is being sue for content they aired, their defense is we're a platform not a publisher and don't censor. Thus the result could be media companies having to state what they are, Platform or Publisher

Censor at will...that'll be an interesting problem. People are being suspended so quickly now for using term learn to code, I strongly suspect the algorithms have been unleashed and AI is now making the call to suspend. I'll be curious to see if Twitter can hide behind it's AI.

Actually, they fit the definition of public utilities, and can and should be regulated as such as the provide the platform for dissemination of public information.
