People seem to think that corporations should be charities. Corporations take their share to pay investors, overhead, marketing, innovation, admin, profit. Anything left, delegated to employee expense. People pick Amazon for 'cheap', which means they want employees to be cheap.

Reminds me of the Peter Schiff Walmart sting! Everyone wanna pay the employees more but no one wants to pay that extra 15%!

The worst you can say about corporations is that sometimes they make errors in assessing the value of employees to the customers, and the consolation is that the errors are punished so that companies that are good value-assessors will prosper over those that aren't.

Would I be correct in oversimplificating that to: the market is dictated by supply and demand.

"Fundamentally" perhaps, but directly, no. Management makes those decisions... and often does not make them well.
-
Management does make those decisions, however, you can choose from amongst the different offers don’t you?
-
My point was just that the decision isn't made directly by consumers. It's pretty roundabout. When you buy a product, you don't necessarily know whether the company's management is paying a decent wage.

The customer buys consumer products at a discount. Amazon is legally able to offer these items at a discount because it avoids taxes, has minimal infastructure overheads (compared with stores) and pays its staff peanuts. I'm a sympathiser of yours, but don't agree on this

I'm beginning to think the megacorporations like Google and Facebook are closer to governments than competing corporations in a free market. I realize the theory of capitalism would have to be revised. I think governments might have a real role in protecting nations.

The market sets the value of labour unless the state gets involved {min wage} which it shouldn't.
