One of the most certain marks of low intelligence: Responding to a general statement as if it applied personally. “Women are on average shorter then men.” “Excuse me, I am a TALL WOMAN!” Once you see it, it’s eeeverywhere. Essence of PC culture.

The most common: "I don't mind paying a little more taxes". As if that is the litmus test for sound national fiscal policy.

It’s also a sign of monumental narcissism and arrogance. Everything is about them, especially when it’s not about them. 🤦‍♂️

Or could it be the complete opposite? Meaning that they lack so much self confidence so think everyone is having a jibe at them. Don't forget the PC brigade are all into group thinking and not individuals, So it could mean they don't know how to think or cope as an individual.

Confidence and narcissism are two different things. We’re saying the same thing you and I.

        - "Women are, on average, shorter than men." - "Excuse me, but this study shows that in-group diffs are greater than between-group diffs, hence there is a woman out there likely taller than you are!" That's the best (non-)argument they can muster.

If you make an observation to a child, eg. there are no more paper towels in the kitchen, invariably he/she will say, “I didn’t use them.” Children always think everything is about them. They aren’t unintelligent but they are self-centered.

A person takes things personally when they have overt acts (direct or indirect harmful act or omission) in that particular area. It's like pressing their buttons. Kids, if they've ve been constantly punished for mistakes (they are learning) can act out the way you mentioned.
