Africa gets fucked by aid that destroys it's local economic activities and keeps corrupt government in power. Those corrupt officials then take a trade deals and loans. Add in all the weapons given away and rape isn't a bad analogy.

If you look at the history of English colonies who gained their independence, those who have experienced bad conditions, experienced them AFTER the Brits left. Free markets were common in British colonies. Less so in subsequent governments.
