All of the pundits on the right opposing the emergency declaration know the next Democrat president will invoke it regardless. They are afraid they will be called a hypocrite 7 years from now arguing against it on a CNN panel.
Since 1979, American presidents have declared 58 national emergencies - 31 of these are still in effect. Barack Obama declared a national emergency 12 times - most of his edicts are also still in effect.

The difference is the 2nd amendment and judicial decisions and precedents can’t be ordered away by executive order. Huge difference between ordering money to be used for a wall and suspending or altering the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution.
