That is true. One central problem in Japan is that it has one of the longest lifespans in the world, and massive benefits have to be paid to the elderly - tax transfers to net consumers mirrors costly immigration. If I have a billion dollars but 2 billion in debt, I’m still gunna have lots of trouble getting out of debt, ceteris paribus Esp when you go into the trillions... it’s rly hard to pay all that off

The spread in expected life length between Japan and other developed countries is quite small (Swedish men lives longer than Japanese men). Crucially the long lifespan cannot explain the drop in birthrates that occurred historically.
