If most slaves were sold to the Europeans by blacks, doesn’t that mean that both whites and blacks have slave-owning ancestors? I really believe we have more in common than we think. Damn slavery and all who participated in it - ending it was the greatest good in human history.

But, what exactly is the point you're making here. That wrongdoing on the European side of the slave trade is justified by wrongdoing on the indigenous African side of it?

I would say that his point is likely that the concept of white guilt (because of slavery) is an absurd concept because many others people/cultures were also guilty of this, some still are! I don’t agree that anyone, should bear the guilt of one’s ancestry.

You're opposed to a straw man. Who in has ever said "our goal should be to create white guilt"? When someone says that the past injustice of slavery, which has a legacy, should be remidied, the fact that there have been other injustices elsewhere is not a counterpoint.

There are more slaves today than at the peak of the “euro” period. ~32 million now. Tribes of Allada and Dahomey among others were notorious slave cultures. Slave coast tribal history is gruesome.

Of course, the British led the way in ending the thousands of years old cycle of widespread slavery, being amongst the first to criminalise it and police it throughout its territories. That rarely gets recognised, however.

It's human nature to desire control and power over others. That desire is not limited to a certain race. We do have more in common than we think Thankfully we have learned to control our desire to control

1 million Europeans were enslaved in North Africa from 1500-1800. Actually the word slave comes from “Slavic”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_slave_trade …

Yes, exactly. A good percentage of the world was involved in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, plenty of blame to go around to all cultures

Ending Slavery cost the US the worst war in history. We paid our dues on that account ten times over. The shame of it was how the democrats resisted and erased a lot of what was fought over in the South where the majority of slaves lived.

Yes, damn slavery and all its participants. But here's the thing, I don't believe whites are interested in finding commonality in this experience of slavery. Seems like you ONLY want to be absolved of the guilt. And I'm just not willing to play historical hot potato with this.
