Those were a terrible 59 years. The African slave trade went on for thousands of years, and the Muslim slave trade for over 1000 years.https://twitter.com/lillwild1/status/1095477338597404672 …

After 1808, when the US banned slaves from Africa, very few slaves were from Africa directly. The breeding of slaves was a booming industry in the south. I know you love victim blaming but after 1808, white southerners became rich by breeding, buying and selling humans.

"Went on for" ??? It's still going. Seen Libya lately? There are 46 Million Slaves on Earth right now. That is more slaves than have ever existed in history, combined, and they *all* in non white countries.

Slavery was brought to the Western Hemisphere by the Spanish and the French before USA was even a nation. And that’s a fact. Look up the history of Haïti.

What is the origin of the word slave? I wonder if it has anything to do with the Slavic people.

Even if true, better ignore the fact that the Southern slave owners were made very un-rich and / or very un-alive by the white war to free the black slaves. Because narrative.

@lillwild1 > as to east Africans. So over the millennia slaves were breed like general livestock. Only the best will breed. To you Stef I'll task you in finding out if this selective breeding has any impacts on black people today. As genes are a huge portion of your potential.

I don't believe he said it was ok. In fact he said it was terrible. He was drawing attention to the full scope of the problem. He seems to feel that a large percentage of slavery is unknown or under discussed. I don't subscribe to his undertones of hate but straw-manning is weak

Yeah I just don’t see that. What I see is that he says factually accurate things in an inflammatory way to get responses like this. What is obvious is that so many ppl regard American slavery as the worst thing to ever happen ever while overlooking the much bigger picture.

Honestly. Slavery went on long before America and still goes on today but nobody here seems to give a damn. Pointing out that the problem is much bigger isn’t trying to reduce how bad our part of it was. He does make it a point to mention how we ended it here tho.

That’s nothing to sneeze at. This culture had a pretty quick historical turn around on this matter while it lasted many times longer in other parts of the world. That’s not minimizing the bad that happened but it is giving credit to those who ended it.
