There will always be rich people in society. You either allow them to serve their fellow citizens thru capitalism or just steal from them w/ govt power thru socialism. Those are the choices. One has a history of prosperity, the other death & starvation. Seems an obvious choice

Running off and forming little communes (a perfectly viable way to run things and our brain leans into the 'under 200' range pretty tight) wasn't working big picture, so now some people are working within the system none of us consented to.

No system is perfect. Human flaws will always make sure of that. But socialism and communism are two of the worst systems because they allow for the easy exploitation. That's why they never work.
