        Just an FYI, many no longer vaccinate, and rest assured the immigrants have no idea. We are currently experiencing a measles outbreak on the west coast, but I wonder what would happen if it were more lethal, i.e. small pox, polio, etc.

        The Little Ice Age started before Columbus arrived. The Vikings had to move out of their Greenland colonies because it was getting too cold. This was well before Columbus.

        That's an oversimplification. There were multiple diseases as well as wars and massacres. Many diseases didn't wipe out local populations until a century after contact as well and was in some cases exacerbated by forced relpcation of natives into crowded unsanitary settlements.
