Yes, we’ve solved Hume.
An ought comes from a hierarchy
Hierarchy comes from limited options
Limited options comes from embodiment
Embodiment comes from the material world
Once we are born into bodies... once we IS... we MUST HAVE OUGHTS.

"Hierarchy comes from limited options" Post-modernist view would argue there is an infinite number of hierarchies so options not limited..only saying.
-
Interesting point. Ok, here is what I meant: embodied creatures have limited options. We are limited by time, space, strength, knowledge, other beings/animals. Post Modernists can claim limitless options but they can’t live that way. How’s that?
-
I agree, was being a pedant really and agree PM is unsustainable. Although I could argue another point. You are arguing from a purely materialistic stance and thus limited to time space, how about the intervention of the supernatural, from outside our closed system ?
-
ps. "Once we are born into bodies... once we IS... we MUST HAVE OUGHTS." Must have or freedom to choose?
-
I think once we’re embodied the limitation innate to embodiment demands moral hierarchy. We are free to choose which choices; but we cannot avoid some choice that is better or worse. Not all facts are equal. I believe “oughts” are innate to “is”. I reject my brother Hume.

Correct. If you don't understand or will not admit the truth of the highly predictive outcome-cause nature of IQ, then you will soon be forced into positing a racist 'cause', and then it's just a short step to libeling (and worse) the innocents.

Stefan loves fighting straw men arguments. Why don’t you have a discussion with Nassim? With JF gariepy?

Reason and morals ain’t what they used to be. It’s very hard to teach what can’t be comprehended.

Why do you reject Ayn Rand’s proposed solution to the is/ought issue. IS: Your daughter has a respiratory infection. OUGHT: You ought to go to the pediatrician. Why is this hard?

There is a great difference between protecting one's society by voicing a concern about burdening a system (an 'is') and saying we 'ought' to practice eugenics. I think

Now this, is a gem. Put beautifully. It's a measure of a human characteristic, like height, weight, nose & feet sizes - it's not right or wrong - it just 'is'.
