It seems to me to be the one universal longing. Even the Greeks talked about the Gods having broken people in two, so they wouldn't be so powerful, and all their lives people searched for their other half. There is a wonderful thing between such people, "Companionable Silence".

Some people get hurt and on a very low level fear that pain ever returning, so they tell themselves they don't want love that lasts. If it's transient, they have power; for it'sb expected to not last. I get it. Don't condone it, but I get it.

& in this ideal world, things like "divorces" & " separations" would not exist, and everyone lived happily ever after.
