If slavery brought prosperity the Industrial Revolution would have happened in Ancient Greece or Rome, they knew about the steam engine. It couldn't possibly have been that the ancient Greeks and Romans cared more about culture and the stability and welfare of society as a whole than money and were wise enough to see that a society driven solely by avarice would ultimately make slaves of us all — which it has.
