COBOL is not a dead language. A lot of financial institutions still use it. I still program in COBOL with imbedded SQL where I work. It is great for what it does. Batch process a ton of records and crunch numbers.

Just remember us "Old Geezers" pretty much laid the groundwork for all of this tech we enjoy today !

Cobol, Ouch.

There is still a TON of backend financials code still written in COBOL. It’s not pretty, but you’d be surprised how much still exists.

My Dad was an old Cobol programmer too! He was a systems analyst back in the early 70s when computers were entire floors of office buildings. Worked programming for Eatons down at Watson's Centre in the 80s. Those Don Mills boys. The Donway and Lawrence!

Fortran.. so who wins the old white coder-competition? :-)
-
I still say my Dad. Early 70s for him. 72, I think, was when he started programming. He is now retired, 73.
-
Yep, he wins :)
-
Lol. He has always been a bit of a nerd. I love, love love my Dad. He is a good one. And the reason I had the ability to pick a great husband and Dad for my own kids! Is your pic Data's "father"?
-
No.. Data's great-great--x-dad.. Arik Soong.. Enterprise villain ;-)
-
Oh I haven't watched the newer ones. I am a TNG nut. But I have been reticent to get into any of the other series tbh. Even the original (I know, for shame). Too campy for me. If I wanna watch that type of show, my go-to is the old Batman TV show. Nananananana.

-
Well.. you could dare give that Enterprise with Scott Bakula a shot.. I think its the best one of the post-TNG.. But of course as usual I'm with the minority opinion here.. :)
-
I will give it a shot. And thanks!
