I don't think wall is the real issue. I think coming war with China has major priority here and steel and iron industry. Somehow Trump doesn't want the wall to be made from concrete what would be much cheaper. Steel and iron is crucial to arms industry instead

I see their objections rooted in pure ego and romantic sentiment. They wouldn't FEEL good about it, so they disregard the practical utility of a wall. If they had to compete for scraps with the lowest socioeconomic strata, they might feel differently...
