Hi Stefan, I believe that a system always needs a safety net (welfare?). There are always those, by no fault of their own are unemployable, who the able need to help.

But should citizens be forced to pay for a safety net via taxation? If it’s a good idea, people will support it voluntarily. If they won’t, what gives us the right to force them?

Nothing is going to end. There are too many allusions to the "fall of the Roman Empire" made in regard to the modern welfare states. Instead, think of an eternally long, gray, rainy, cold day in which the sun never comes out and you can never really leave the house to do anything

the poor are poor because of the welfare state. Those who've made such bad decisions over the majority of their life b/c of it will meet a sad fate but those capable of work will flourish without the constraints of the welfare/warfare state preventing competition

And are you aware that wages need to be much higher than they are right now in order for people who do want to go as far as they can in life to pay for there education? Can't do that making $7 an hour.

The Swedish public sector has positive net financial wealth (even without counting the value of buildings and such) and the state runs a budget surplus. Nothing beats facts, amigo.

Welfare doesnt need to be in monetary form though. Food stamps with healthy food, medicine when in need and education to get out if the cycle. Dont educate self, stay as is

Abolishing welfare would lead to chaos and anarchy. Crime would rise dramatically. It would be foolish to abolish social safety nets without an adequate alternative.
