Half of marriages in Iraq are between cousins. Costs 10+ IQ points on average to the offspring. You are the science denier.https://twitter.com/DrCirillo/status/1083354124673056770 …

I missed that ridiculous tweet about IQ in Iraq. Really?! And then he speaks about science? This is Dunning–Kruger at its best.

How does that work, exactly? If cousin marriage costs 10 I.Q. points and the practice has been going on forever, shouldn't the average Iraqi I.Q. be -1,000,000 by now? *lol*

There is a law of diminishing returns. Cousin marriage is scientifically proven to have a negative effect on offspring. It's not really a debate worthy point.

Is this a universal genetic mechanism or is there some set of exceptions? From what I understand, ultra Orthodox Jews, strict Jains, Parsees, and Amish also have high rates of cousin marriage and high IQ (and high disability rates). I’m trying to reconcile it.

It could be that the cousin aspect is still a drag on the IQ despite it being high - that is, without the cousin marriages it would be even higher. Or perhaps it works in a different direction in high IQ vs low IQ populations by amplifying the genes that cause one or the other.

It is, but not in any way Stefan will ever talk about. Improved nutrition, decreased stress, less AODA, lower exposure to environmental toxins....both during gestation and after birth

The point is, even if you take stefans's word as gold, be able to modify g by 20% is huge, and hugely relevant to public policy.

It is. But it is less relevant than addressing the facts that high IQ people have less and less children, and that we are flooding our countries with low IQ populations. Even with the best of the possible effect of nutrition, etc, you could not keep the boat afloat for very long
