The fact is the vast majority people entering the country illegally are non-violent people. Thus we've spent ridiculous amounts of money criminalizing and enforcing laws that prevent non-violent behavior. It would be just as ridiculous to make gun-ownership more difficult.

We'd be better off expanding access at ports of entry, scrapping our plans for a border wall, and directing resources to go after real criminals.

It's not an irrelevant argument if proponents of the wall use safety as a reason. Welfare situation is a concern, I agree, but that's s problem that can be more easily fixed with legislation, not a wall.
