Source please. Massachusetts had a 99% literacy rate before government schooling. Across the US, Charles Dickens and Thomas Paine were enormously popular - as were book clubs - and I don’t recall de Tocqueville talking about dull Americans too much.https://twitter.com/DangerBrooks/status/1082666226931781633 …

Putting aside his obvious racism and pseudoscience, the average IQ during Jefferson's presidency was probably in the 80s. https://twitter.com/StefanMolyneux/status/1082489068741513217 …

80s. LOL Go read some letters in ink from that period. Thank you. I'm done.

Bingo. Once read a great series of books called "The Wilderness Empire" (17th & 18th century North America). The books are full of actual letters from 'commoners' that would make a Literature or English Major feel pitiful.

I should preface by saying that I'm skeptical of IQ as a meaningful concept. But you're familiar with the Flynn Effect, right? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flynn_effect …. Also, you're kidding me with that literacy rate in critical-period Massachusetts. I would need to see a convincing source.

Also, Charles Dickens was not popular during Jefferson's presidency. He was born three years after Jefferson left office. de Tocqueville is great, but I don't think he met the quote-unquote average Americans of the time.

Stefan Molyneux is a high IQ individual, I estimate this IQ is at least, at least 130. It’s probably somewhere around the 150’s.

According to a 2012 statement from the UC/CSU systems, reported by McClatchy, 75% of all high school graduates are functionally illiterate, and a full 80% are innumerate. . . requiring remedial courses before they can take actual college classes.

Women did go to school, and if they didn’t they were homeschooled. Slaves and Native Americans were not citizens, and there were barely any free blacks if any. We’re talking Jefferson era, so very early on in America’s existence.

Also, if you read his tweet at all, he never mentioned anything about the relation to IQ and race, AND he was talking specifically about the state of Massachusetts.
