Next time "we" build a civilization via slavery, colonialism, and other forms of subjugation that violate "our" stated principles, "we" shouldn't be surprised or upset when those "we" forcibly conscripted into "our" civilization demand that "we" live up to those ideals. FTFY.

African slavery was sourced by other African tribes (Ashanti & Dahomey) and used by white profiteers to gain wealth & power, but was actively abolished by the British Empire (Wilberforce, with Royal Navy enforcement) which also abolished widow-burning Suttee rituals in India
-
That other societies also practiced slavery, or that some Western countries abolished it before the US did, doesn't really address my point.
-
Not "also", they were directly responsible for the slavery you referenced.

wow she must have had a great time visiting your desk
-
I once had a teacher who decided he was going to visit EVERY branch of a regional grocery store on the weekends and dragged his kids with him. That still sounds more fun than going to look at a desk.
-
That sounds like a truly bizarre quest. Like the couple who visited every Wetherspoons or
@allthestations. -
He was an... interesting dude.
-
It's clearly about sharing his past with his daughter. I hope my own children will one day consider the places I spent significant time and effort in my personal pursuits a worthwhile visit. For we are all a continuation of our family legacy.
-
yes maybe they will enjoy visiting your old desk - or perhaps a chair?
-
In fact, yes. If my children are curious enough to want to see a place where I spent many hours developing myself as a young man, I would know that it's because they love their father. It's truly not about the desk.

The EU has betrayed it's own people. Running won't help. It's time to turn and fight.

All I can imagine is a brown dude studying for a test trying to earn a degree and make something of himself and some bald old white guy seeing his skin and thinking "what happened to our civilization?"

Perhaps leave the building of civilization to people who read instead?

There’ll be no next time until the west chooses the faith of her ancestors. The state of being in Europe cannot revolve around skewed concepts of morality and justice. If she is afraid to define herself accordingly, then she is asking to be conquered and redefined. Rinse, repeat.
