They are poles. Europeans who lost their heritage call themselves white or do it cuz the government tells them to because they have no culture. Stefan I think is a honorary pole like Dances with wolves.

It's part of the political language. Blacks and Whites in America have lost their heritage. Also I think its deliberate. Irish Americans, Italian Americans suspiciously you don't hear it as often as before. Maybe it's about marketing and consumerism.
